Police in Karongi District is holding a 22-year old woman suspected to be part of a drug trafficking ring in the area. The woman, name withheld, was apprehended on Saturday following a tip-off from area residents.

At the time of her arrest, police says, she had 12 kilogrammes of cannabis.

The suspect is currently detained at Rubengera Police Station.

She will be charged with sell of illegal substances, police says.

If found guilty, she faces between three and five years in prison and a fine ranging from Rwf500,000 to 5 million.
