The national basketball league’s second round, initially scheduled to start on August 10 but postponed due to the Fiba Afrobasket championship, will resume on September 14, officials have said. The national senior men’s team which competed in the continental tournament was made up of players from reigning national league champions Espoir BBC, Kigali Basketball Club (KBC) and Cercle Sportif de Kigali (CSK)."The local basketball championship will resume on September 14, two weeks after the African championship (staged in Ivory Coast),” Rwanda Basketball Federation secretary general Mutabazi told Times Sport. He said there was no major reason to rush the second round of the league. "We postponed the return of the league for a couple of weeks because the players and coaches who were with the national team at the Africa championship need some to rest.”He hailed Rwanda’s performance at the 27th edition of the Fiba Afrobasket championship where the county finished in 10th position."They really did well considering that they did not have sufficient preparations; they performed beyond our expectations,” Mutabazi said. After the first round matches, defending champions Espoir lead the league with 12 points, one point ahead of second-placed Rusizi BBC, while 30-Plus are at the bottom in the seven-team table with six points.
