For some, wall clocks are just for telling time. But for those who value their homes, it is more than that. The beauty of the clock is taken to include accessorising the wall, the reason we choose to buy beautiful clocks. So, why do some people leave their clocks for months without changing the batteries?First impressions last forever, so we have been told since childhood. By this very fact, your living room becomes one of the most important (and sensitive) parts of your home. Of course, many people seem to be aware of this fact, which is why it is common to find well-cleaned and arranged living rooms in people’s homes, only to venture further into the other rooms and meet with filth. And when it comes to living room décor, it appears that nothing is given as little regard as the traditional wall clock. In many homes, wall clocks have actually been wiped out all together, and where you find a house hold that still insists on one, that clock is likely to be dysfunctional–either inaccurate, poorly positioned, or not functioning all together. Many have blamed it on the proliferation of other time-bearing gadgets like mobile phones, computers, and to a less extent even wrist watches (although these too seem to be faced with the same "natural death” as wall clocks. We all agree on how valuable time is, and it is not for nothing that you often hear the phrase; "time is money”. We all do our work within a particular time frame, and may even be compelled to constantly check the time in between. Most people own wall clocks in their homes, but they never realise how important it is in their lives, until, that is, its battery ends one day, probably late in the night. The problem with a dead wall clock is not just that you can’t see the time. Rather, it is the risk you run of misreading the time, thinking the clock is working fine. Imagine having to be late by two hours for that important money deal, simply because your wall clock misled you so. While flat batteries are quite understandable an inconvenience, there are homes with wall clocks that have long ceased to tick, simply because the clock’s hands have been taken hostage by cobwebs. What about your domestic worker, who has to take charge of the home while you toil away at work? At all costs, they need a constant reminder of the time, for them to be able to accomplish tasks according to schedule. Otherwise, your meal times could be distorted, and the house help could delay to pick up your child from kindergarten because the clock lied to them. Yet a wall clock is not just about showing time. Wall clock designs have evolved over the years to increase their appeal from being mere time-tellers to wall decors. There are even specialised clocks for the various facets of your home, just to improve their functionality. For instance, there are walls designed for the shower room, that are likely to come more water-resistant that the average, while kitchen clocks will come fitted to chime louder, since cooking is a time-sensitive chore. People that want decorative value from their wall clocks usually go for such material as fine wood, or even stone, usually paying keen attention to the texture of the material.
