A mother was this morning killed by a rocket fired into Rwanda at the Rubavu border district. The rocket was fired from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) around 10 am.

The incident in Mbuganini Cell, Rubavu District also left a seven-month-old baby with severe injuries, according to the Rubavu District Mayor Sheikh Hassan Bahame.

The Mayor said: "There is no doubt. No other party is behind this other than the Congolese army as the bombs are coming from their area across the border.”

Bahame said he also received reports of another rocket attack near the Kwa Nyanja night club, which left one person injured. He added that two more rockets landed in fields in Busasamana Sector but no one was injured.

This is the second incident within a period of one week.

Last week, DRC forces fired a 107mm rocket in an urban area of Bugu Cell in Cyanzarwe Sector and caused damage to property.

The Government of Rwanda immediately requested the Expanded Joint Verification Mechanism (EJVM) to visit the area.
