SECOND SEED Dieudonne Habiyambere set the stage for a tough encounter against Uganda’s David Oringa in today’s semi final after edging out home boy Mubarak Harelimana in a thrilling quarter final of the ITF/CAT Money Circuit tournament yesterday at Umubano hotel.
Habiyambere who had an easy start to the competition faced a torrid time against Harelimana as he needed close to two hours to register a 6-2 7-5 win to earn a place in the last four.
Uganda’s remaining player in the tournament David Oringa easily dispatched Cuma Issa, his counterpart in the double’s category with a 6-2 6-1 result.
In other matches, defending champion Jean Claude Gasigwa defeated Gatete Hamisi 6-3 6-3 while Moussa Hakizimana booked a semi final slot with a 6-4 6-6(5) against Olivier Nkunda.
In today’s semi final, Habiyambere face Oringa in a tricky encounter while Gasigwa takes on Hakizimana.
The week-long tournament which has total prize money of US$4500 (about Rwf.3m), will see the winners of each category pocket US$800 and the losing finalists taking US$540. The semi-finalists and quarter-finalists will walk away with US$200 and US$140 respectively.
