DAR-ES-SALAAM - Amri Kiemba and Maulid Kapenta were on target for the group C underdogs as Zanzibar’s Miembeni Fc stunned defending champions APR in the on going Cecafa/Kagame Cup championship yesterday before a low crowd in Dar-es-salaam.

The setback dropped APR’s hopes of making it to the quarterfinals stage straight forward and now having to wait on the remaining  group matches to determine the third best runners.

APR drew their first game against Yanga Africans 2-2 on Sunday. Miembeni play their second and last group game on Sunday against Yanga.

APR coach Rene Feller was upset with what he saw as ultra-defensive tactics by Miembeni, said, "One team came to play football, the other came to defend. They had nine defenders and it needs something special to unlock such a setup.”

"They didn’t play football, they came just to defend,” the Dutch coach told a post match new conference.

Kiemba’s goal gave Miembeni1-0 lead in the 42nd minute after a defensive blunder by APR left-back Ngirinshuti Mwemere, who failed to clear the ball and gifted Sabri Ramadhan a chance to pass toKiemba, who made no mistake from six yards, leaving goalkeeper Aimé Ndizeye with no chance.

In the second half, it was one-way traffic as Miembeni got the second goal midway through the half and then missed several scoring chances as APR pressed forward in search of an equalizer a goal.

The defending champions briefly threatened in the first half when striker Kabange Twite twice came close, but his brother twine Mbuyu, the architect of APR’s draw against Yanga, was given no chance in the game.

Feller was forced to change his defence because first choice right back Elias Ntaganda was injured. The military side got a boost when midfielder Jean-Baptist Mugiraneza pulled one back five minutes before time but Miembeni defence was determined to hold on to a priceless win.

Kabange was constantly overshadowed by Marcos Raphael wherever he roamed around the field and when he finally won a free-kick on the half hour he sent the resulting effort aimless behind for a goal kick.
