The New Times’ Business Magazine seeks to clarify that the issue published on 7th July 2008, erroneously misinterpreted Claire AKAMANZI, Deputy Director General of the Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency (RIEPA)’s responses regarding the 1st East African Investment Conference (EAIC).

Akamanzi was misquoted regarding Kenya’s inability to host EAIC. 

The New Times’ has since established that Kenya’s interest to host this conference was much earlier, before Rwanda joined the East African Community (EAC).

We have also established that Rwanda has since then recognized the need and wishes of any EAC partner state for a joint regional investment promotion.

Rwanda has also time and again offered to host this conference on behalf of member states given her experience in hosting annual investment conferences.

In our bid to seek for a clarification from RIEPA we have found out that EAC Secretariat was aware that Kenya had previously intended to hold a similar conference.

Our article also misquoted Akamanzi as saying that finding accommodation for delegates was a challenge for conference organizers. We have since established that the above statement was wrongly interpreted.

We regret these attributes to Akamanzi and to RIEPA as an institution. The misrepresentation in this article is also highly regretted to our readers.
