FAWE Girls’ School emerged the winners of this year’s second term debate competition that was held at Ifak High School last weekend. The event marked the end of a two-week training programme organised by iDebate Rwanda, in partnership with Goethe institute and the US Embassy in Rwanda.Fawe Girls’ School battled it out with King David Academy after both schools sailed through to the finals after defeating Gashora Girls’ Academy and Lycée Notre Dame de Citeaux, respectively.The event brought together 13 of the 20 schools that took part in the training programme. Each school had two teams each with three speakers under the motion, "Should Rwanda move to a middle income country by 2020?”The Director of Goethe Institute, Peter Stephan, graced the event as the chief guest.Christine Teta, the founder of iDebate, said there have been improvements in the quality of debate, thanks to the training they have been receiving."We also saw an increase in the number of competitors, which is encouraging; even the new participants were polished,” Teta said, adding that they have more of such events planned for the future.
