With examinations at the end of each teaching cycle many in the school system resort to studying only for the sake of passing exams. When results come out there is always joy and celebration for those who passed and a lot of despair for those who fail.As Education Times tackles the growing phenomenon of parents doing all they can to see that their children pass exams including hiring tutors, we would like to point out that there is more to learn in life than just that which is required at examination time. When you look around the world today you notice that there are successful people in so many diverse career fields. Some of the fields are not even academic fields. It can be music or sports or a unique skill that serves many in society. In today’s issue, we feature a lawyer but there are other people who do not sit behind a table to work but still earn a lot of money and respect. Have you as a parent ever thought about whether your child’s unique talent calls for extra tuition? If he loves tennis, have you ever thought about hiring a private tennis coach to help him improve his back hand? The famous Williams sister, Venus and Serena managed to become world stars thanks to their father who trained them over and over. Supposing your child is blessed with a beautiful voice or a passion to play a musical instrument. Would it not be wise to hire a private music tutor to help her hit those notes instead of investing in that one who teaches her the same things you pay the school to teach? Sometimes we need to think out of the box for our children.
