Editor,This is with reference to Lonzen Rugira’s column, "How Rwanda protects its future”, published in The New Times issue of August 24.Contrary to what some may think, these people don’t love the DRC. As usual President Kagame had it absolutely right: they don’t love the Congolese for sure, but what they can grab from there.And why be surprised by Presidents Kikwete and Zuma’s support of those looters’ plans to keep the DRC under their thumb with the help of imperialist force Monusco, or should I say, Monuseless as our own Sonia Uwimana has so aptly named that money-guzzler?It is important to recall that slave trade was made infinitely easier for the slavers with the help of some coastal African rulers.Slave trade and the colonisation of Africa wouldn’t have been possible if Africa was united with one voice, without local traitors, sometimes chiefs or powerful palace councilors to sign away in exchange for trinkets (in reality to put their finger print on pieces of paper whose content they were clueless about –westerners have always been punctiliously legalistic even as they rob or kill you).We continue to see corrupt African leaders compromise the welfare of their people and their countries’ futures by transferring the rights to their natural resources to foreign control in exchange for relative pittances into their own personal bank accounts in various foreign offshore banking havens or in luxurious real estates in the West.In these circumstances, the coalition of thieves hates nothing more than those who refuse to cooperate in those plans, just as the Arab slavers of old hated the Kingdom of Rwanda for always receiving them with a hail of arrows instead of helping raid for slaves from the neighbouring territories.I say, so be it.Mwene Kalinda, Kigali*******************That’s their usual hate-driven propaganda against Rwanda.
