Mukura Victory Sports & Loisirs held APR to goalless draw in a friendly game held Saturday, August 5, at Huye Sports Stadium.
The match was part of the "Black and Yellow” club’s 60th anniversary celebrations.
Prior to the match, Mukura unveiled their new signings, including Ghanaian winger Samuel Pimpong who appended his signature to a two-year deal on Friday after passing trials.
The game started on a bright note with both sides making incursions into the others’ vital area.
It was Mukura who had the first chance of the game as Christophe Bukuru hit the cross bar with a ferocious drive in the 20th minute.
APR's midfield made up of Taddeo Lwanga, Shaiboub and Ismail Nshimirimana were a delight to watch with their box to box play but they lacked the needed creativity.
Nshimirimana, who was playing at the top of the midfield trip, had a 30-yard drive sailed over the bar to the relief of the the Mukura supporters.
APR had a penalty in the 38th minute after Remol was brought down by goalkeeper Nicolas Sebwato. But the Ugandan shot stopper timed well Victor Mbaoma’s movement to save the spot kick and keep the home side in the game.
The first half ended 0-0 as both teams had fair share of possession.
At recess, a 60th anniversary cake for Mukura Victory was cut by a host of officials led by club president Yves Nyirigira as well as FERWAFA officials.
The second half started at a slow pace with both teams deciding to hold on to the ball in order to create space.
There were several chances made by both sides but it was that of Mukura which yielded much dividends as new signing Samuel Pimpong proved to be a tough customer for Christian Ishimwe with his pace and footwork.
APR brought on Innocent Nshuti for Victor Mbaoma who was totally at sea in the game.
The final ten minutes of the game saw both teams playing more tactically as the game ended in a goalless draw.
The game also served as a preseason outing for both teams ahead of the 2023/24 season which starts on August 18.
