The top three players are all through to Friday’s quarter-finals of the inaugural Nyarutarama Open tennis tournament after recording easy wins on Wednesday.
Top seed Jean Claude Gasigwa easily beat Justin Nkuranga in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to qualify for tomorrow’s quarter-finals, second-seeded Dieudonne Habiyambere also won comfortably 6-0, 6-0 against Emmanuel Gasirita.
The third seed Olivier Nkunda, who is eager to win the tournament, also beat lowly ranked Jean Claude Tiganna in two sets 7-5, 6-0.
"I am delighted to reach the quarterfinals, now the focus turns to the next stage although I’m yet to know my opponent,” Nkunda told Times Sport after his second round win.
On Monday, Gasigwa opened his campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 win over unseeded Eric Uwamahoro, Habiyambere saw off lowly seeded Ernest Kayiranga 6-4, 6-0 and NKunda also easily won 6-1, 6-1 against Claude Habanabakize.
