Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Monday seized 30 kilogrammes of cannabis in Gasabo District and arrested three people suspected of trafficking the drug.
In a Tuesday statement, Police said the drugs, which were stashed in two sacks, were uncovered in a Kigali-bound commuter taxi from Kirehe, following a tip-off.
Urbain Mwiseneza, the Central Region Police spokesperson, hailed the increasing participation of the population in fighting crime, mainly through timely sharing of information.
Those arrested include a driver and conductor, who allegedly tried to aid a 15-year-old boy to transport the drugs to Kigali. They are currently detained at Rusororo Police Station.
"Many drug dealers, especially suppliers have been arrested and their narcotics confiscated, all based on information given to us by the public,” Mwiseneza said.
"We have no doubt that this great job the public is doing will leave no stone unturned; it will put drug dealers in a fix and it will be easier for us to apprehend them.”
Man held
Meanwhile, Police in Kamonyi District have arrested a man accused of killing his wife, on Sunday, over what is said to have been a domestic dispute.
The suspect is accused of having hacked his 30-year-old wife to death.
