PRIMUS national league champions Rayon Sports has finally cleared a long-standing debt worth US$30,000 (about Rwf19.9m) the club owed former coach Raoul Shungu.

The debt was cleared in phases since April.

On Monday, the Primus league champions Rayon Sports cleared the third installment of US$9,300 (about Rfw5.5m) via western union after two previous installments worth Rwf8 million and Rfw6.5m were cleared in April and July, respectively, according to the club general secretary Olivier Gakwaya.

Gakwaya said told Times Sport yesterday, "We have cleared all the three installments as promised and are happy that everything have been sorted amicably,”

"We were committed to settle Shungu’s case and now that we are done with it, focus will be on club development and the future,” Gakwaya said.

Rayon Sports cleared the debt after the Congolese-born petitioned Fifa following the collapse of a deal under which Shungu had returned to the club for a third spell in 2008.

And earlier this year, Fifa ordered Rayon Sports to either pay Shungu or risk being relegated to the second division besides other penalties.

Shungu is considered by many as Rayon’s most successful coach after guiding the club to the 1999 Cecafa Club championship title and three league titles – in 1997, 1998 and 2002.

Between 2004 and 2008, Shungu also served as technical director for the Seychelles football federation.
