RESIDENTS in Muhanga District, Southern Province, have said they are ready to take part in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.About six million Rwandans are expected to vote in the upcoming elections slated for September 16, according to the National Electoral Commission (NEC).Potien  Nteziyaremye, 53, a resident of Cyeza sector says he is ready to partake in the elections because he believes it is his responsibility as a citizen.Nteziyaremye says he knows all information regarding how the elections will be conducted due to sensitisation campaigns by local authorities in his area. "I remember the elections day like my birth day and I am eager to cast my vote when time comes,” the elderly man said.Everyone’s duty"MPs represent us in following up on the government’s activities; they make sure the country adopts policies that maintain economic growth, social cohesion and democratic values. This is why I must take part in the elections to ensure that my vote goes to the right people,” Alphonsine Batete, another resident, said showing off her voting card.She added: "It’s everyone’s duty and responsibility to participate in elections as we want democracy to rein in our country.”Phelomène Nyirahabimana, the National Electoral Commission coordinator in Muhanga-Kamonyi region, told The New Times that almost everything is set for the upcoming elections."Everything is ready in our region and people are waiting for the elections,” she said.She added that this is a result of efforts in especially mobilising residents to massively turn out for the elections and to provide them with timely information on all requirements and rules governing the elections.
