NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI — Sector election coordination committees have been urged to work in transparency during the forthcoming parliamentary elections.

Charles Uyisenga, the National Electoral Commissioner for Northern Province, said without transparency there can never be successful elections.

"You should maintain a high level of integrity and transparency while carrying out your duties in order to ensure successful elections,” said Uyisenga. He was addressing local leaders last week at Gicumbi district.

According to Uyisenga, the Sector Election coordination committees shall be comprised of the president of the Sector Advisory council, Sector representatives at district advisory committee, women representative at Sector level, representative of community policing, the in charge of Civic education and the coordinator of elections at the Sector. The committees would be headed by the Sector Executive Secretary.

Uyisenga explained that among other tasks, the members would be charged with over seeing the elections exercise to ensure that election rules and regulations are observed, provide a fair environment at polling stations and maintain order on polling day.

Present at the meeting were Village (Mudugudu) heads, Cell coordinators, Sector Executive Secretaries and Sector community policing representatives hailing from Gicumbi district.
