RUHANGO — Residents of Mwendo Cell, Mbuye sector in Ruhango district last week celebrated their development achievements.
Some of the achievements recognised during the fete include land consolidation and improved agricultural produce, improved security and community policing and the establishment of a model terraced hill commonly refered to as ‘Agasozi ndatwa’ in the village. It is from these terraces that government pilots all it’s programmes.
"Through the Ubudehe programme, the residents have worked hard and their contribution to development is worth celebrating. Residents contributed in the construction of water lines (13Km) and each of the villages has clean water supply, built three houses for survivors and registered for health insurance at 85 per cent,” said Evalde Nkundimana, the Cell coordinator.
The event was marked at a get-together party hosted by local leaders. Despite being in remote area of Ntyenyo junction with a single road network, residents were all-prepared and smartly dressed to expose their achievements in education, health, and security among other things. Through songs, dances, and plays, they attributed their achievements to good local leadership.
Nkundimana noted that the area has potential of becoming a business hub between residents of Kamonyi and Ruhango but lack road access.
He said: "We have a hospital, vocational school and many secondary schools and an active market. These activities can be sources of increased growth if the Ruhango-Kamonyi road access road is completed and telecommunication network is installed in the area.”
Other areas that need immediate attention, he said, include extention of electricity to the area, equipping the Vunga Vocational School and sports equipment to enhance games among residents.
During the same ceremony, residents watched a football match between Mwendo cell and Kizibere which ended in 2-0 in favour of the former.
