Editor,I am always shocked by the views of some of our leaders in matters to do with the East African Community. How much on earth does hosting meetings on a rotational basis in all the partner states contribute to the unification in all or any of EAC aspects?Instead, in this day and age, Members of the East African Legislative Assembly should even stop going to Arusha and hold their meetings via video-conferencing. Over the past five years, we have invested lots of taxpayers’ money into optic fiber and EASSY infrastructures, and it’s about time EALA tapped into these infrastructures.In fact, the regional lawmakers should be the first to take advantage of the technology that’s already available in all the bloc’s countries.Rwigema, Kigali, Rwanda*****************************I think EAC parliamentarians are only interested in mission allowances from these meetings, and not in sensitising the East Africans about the integration process.
