EASTERN PROVINCE

NYAGATARE — Sector authorities have closed Nyagatare Taxi park citing poor sanitation.

James Gakuru, Nyagatare cell executive secretary said the decision was reached after an inspection that revealed that the park lacked sanitary facilities.

"We have been warning these people to construct modern toilets in the park. However, their response was negative, asking the authorities to give them enough time,” Gakuru said.

Gakuru explained that the decision was a directive by the area governor, Ephraim Kabaija to close down all taxi and bus parks without toilet facilities.

The governor reportedly issued the order last Wednesday at a meeting with sectors, cells executive secretaries and opinion leaders.

The park is owned and controlled by Atraco Company. Patrice Rwamuganga, the in charge of Atraco in the area, acknowledged the development. He said they had already started constructing the toilets expected to be completed in a period of one month.
