Editor,This is with reference to Gitura Mwaura’s commentary entitled, "Days of free online newspapers are numbered”, published in the edition of The New Times of August 1.The writer brought up something interesting to be debated but I do not agree with him. On the contrary, no newspaper will survive if it doesn’t reach out to as many people as possible via digital media. Print sales will shrink, yes, but who told you newspapers survive on newspapers? They thrive on adverts and some advertisers simply buy papers to prove their advert was placed and placed appropriately. Think about it, if a newspaper website is opened and found inaccessible, readers will go to some other site. Charles Twesigye, Uganda**********************I am one of the loyal readers of The New Times – almost on a daily basis. It’s important for me to stay connected to Rwanda and this newspaper is a great source to get a different perspective. I don’t need the latest up to date news right away, so, if there would be 2-3 day old articles online, that would be fine with me.
I think that The New Times is also a great advertiser for Rwanda, a window to the "outside” world, where readers like myself come and read about the country, the culture, the society, the problems, the dangers, the challenges. So thank you for your worldwide online audience. The New Times Reader, California, USA
