Rwanda’s number two professional golfer, Emmanuel Ruterana, will compete in the forthcoming KCB Kenya Open after receiving a timely boost from Flash FM, a local radio station that provided him with a return air ticket to Mombasa.
The golfer is due to leave for Kenya on Sunday, a day after it was reported that he would miss the four-day international tournament due to lack of sponsorship to enable him make the trip.
The tournament is set for August 7-11 at Leisure lodge golf club in Mombasa, Kenya.
The 30-year-old Ruterana struggled with sponsorship issues up to the point of almost giving up the tournament. His compatriot and Rwanda’s number one, Jean Baptist Hakizimana, flew out to Mombasa on Thursday.
"I had already given up on the tournament because of lack of sponsorship but thanks to Flash FM for making my participation possible,” a seemingly relieved Ruterana told Sunday Sport.
The former caddie added, "I have prepared for this tournament for a long time tournament aiming to be better than last year when I finished fourth and I guess the experience I gained from the previous three editions will put me in a good position to challenge for the title.”
Last year’s edition of the KCB Kenya Open was won by Kenya’s Nicholas Rokoine.
