Editor, I WISH to respond to Gaspard Safari’s article, "Who will call HRW to order?” (The New Times, July 29). In the past it seemed like it was an internal upheaval but it is now increasingly becoming clear that, through these Human Rights Watch’s biased reports and several other similar cases where Rwanda has been accused unfairly, the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi is actually the responsibility of the major players in the international arena.Otherwise one would wonder why they could not want to stop the Genocide when they knew it was being planned and didn’t move a finger to try to stop it when it finally took place; why they protected the perpetrators both when they were still on the Rwandan soil and after they had crossed over into the DRC until this date.It is strange that they level, through this HRW proxy, gross allegations against Rwanda on the Congolese rebellion that is so recent, and never make any mention of the FDLR, a Rwandan militia that has been carrying out incredible atrocities in that country, with all impunity.If truly HRW was fair, and assuming it had a point in arguing that Rwanda supports M23, why don’t they tell who is supporting the FDLR, which has even been blacklisted by the United Nations and United States as a terrorist organisation. Why would it matter less to them? Is it because the Tutsi blood being shed by these terrorists is not of the same colour as that of the westerners being targeted by the al-Qaeda?It is ironic; some terrorists they defend as legitimate and others they condemn as devils.HRW is simply run by hypocrites! To them some humans are more human than others. I don’t claim to be all-knowing, but obviously Rwanda has a far more convincing position.This is clearly a malicious and deliberate character assassination against Rwanda, but truth will finally prevail anyway.I am very happy that Rwandans are responding empathically to this misinformation and smear campaign. But in my opinion, Rwandan journalists should wage more aggressive preemptive actions against this malicious campaign by such shameless organisations and governments with view to exposing them before their own people, who have been taken for a ride for far too long.Secondly, I would expect the African Union to carry out their own independent fact-finding missions and make public the truth of the matter to the whole world.Otherwise the AU would be completely irrelevant and serving no meaningful purpose in as far as standing up for the truth and inviolability of its members is concerned.Donart, Kigali
