College Gisenyi Yamiramihigo were on Saturday crowned Bank Populaire sponsored schools’ football tournament for the third time in a row.

The Northern Province school beat ASPEJ 2-1 in the final of the four-team tournament held at Kicukiro grounds that included ASPEJ, St. Joseph, EAV Ntedezi and the eventual winners College Gisenyi.

Ramadhan Nawugayake (28) and Amin Rukundo (35), who features for first division side Marine Fc scored for Gisenyi while Ali Nsegiyumva scored ASPEJ’s consolation in the 87th minute.

College Gisenyi were using the tournament to prepare for the East African inter-schoold competitions featuring schools from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi which will be held next month in Kigali.  

On top of the trophy, the champions bagged Frw0.3m, the beaten finalists walked away with Frw0.25m and St. Joseph took Frw0.2m for finishing third position EAV ntedezi bagged Frw0.15m courtesy of the sponsors.

The annual tournament that has been running since 2006 is intended at encouraging the youth, especially students to learn the culture of saving for their future, is organized by the Education ministry and sponsored by the Bank Populaire of Rwanda.
