Seed three Gisel Umararungu is the only local player who battled to reach the first leg of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) U-14 tennis circuit final being held at Cercle Sportif. 

Umararungu defeated Kenya’s Michelle Onyacha 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to set up a final clash against Chinese Kenya-born Chen Wendy who ousted Uganda’s Lydia Ndagire 6-2, 6-1 in the singles category.

In the boys’ singles, Burundi’s Hassan Ndayishimiye beat Kenya’s Peter Ayella 6-1, 6-0 to set up a final clash against another Kenyan Gabriel Teja, who also beat another Burundian Guy Iradukunda 6-4, 6-2.

The first leg of the CAT U-14 event wind up today at Cercle Sportif arena with the second leg due to resume from July 16-19.
