NYAMASHEKE—Students should always set high academic targets in order to excel in their studies, Nyamasheke Mayor has said.

Speaking during student Open Day at Kagano parish conference hall recently, Vincent Muragwa said students needed to work hard for a bright future.

In the audience were students of Groupe Scolaire St Joseph and Groupe St Francis.

"As future ambitious students who are here I advise you to always read hard in order to excel in your exams and continue with higher education,” he said.

This, he added, would enable the students to become the country’s future leaders and succeed in other aspects of life.

Cautioning the students against indiscipline and fornication, the mayor said students should put emphasis on science subjects than humanities.

On family planning, he called on students to mobilise and sensitise all expectant mothers to produce from health centres and to produce few children they can afford to look after.

On genocide ideology, Muragwa urged the students to desist from the vice and any racial divisions. He asked students to report those harboring the vice to security authorities in time.

In their remarks, the students appealed to the district and Ministry of Education to construct more schools in the area, saying some of their colleagues move long distances to reach school.
