Thirteen-time league champions APR FC is expected to start intensive training on Wednesday ahead of this year’s East African Community Military Games and Culture Week set to be held on August 5-17in Nairobi, Kenya.APR club secretary general Adolph Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that the military side which is yet to regroup for pre-season, will regroup this week to kick off preparations."The team starts training on Wednesday and is expected to head to Kenya in the first days of the month of August in readiness for the tournament,” said Kalisa.The East Africa Military Games and Culture week comes at a time when the EAC integration process is intensifying on all fronts.The two-week event will bring together teams from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda. South Sudan, the region’s newest member, has applied to be included but its membership is yet to be approved.The Games entail a variety of sporting disciplines including; handball, football, netball, cross-country and basketball among others.  According to the event organisers, the primary objective of the event is to nurture an esprit de corps among the EAC defense forces and for individual soldiers to appreciate the diverse cultures in the region.APR football club will be among the clubs making up a big Rwanda Defence Forces [RDF] team which will represent the country at the annual event.Rwanda will participate in football, handball, athletics, handball, basketball and netball.The Games will feature various disciplines, including: handball (men and women), football (men), netball (women), cross-country marathon (men and women) and basketball (men).Two years ago, Kenya bagged three gold medals (in handball, cross country men and women categories) and three silvers (in netball, basketball and football) to finish top of the medals table.Uganda followed with one gold medal in football, silver medals in handball and cross country (women) and bronze in netball while hosts Burundi secured third place with one gold medal in basketball, silver in cross country men and bronze in football.Tanzania, in fourth place amassed a gold medal in netball and bronze medals in basketball and cross country (women category).  Rwanda finished in fifth position with a bronze medal in only women’s cross country.
