Qatari-based Placide Sibomana Madison escaped from senior volleyball national team camp, as the team was preparing to compete in the world cup qualifiers sub-zone against Egypt.

Rwanda Volleyball Federation president Gustave Nkurunziza said the player has not been seen since Wednesday evening and the federation does not have any clue about his whereabouts.

According to the official, Sibomana left camp claiming to have suffered a knee injury but did not stay around to be screened by the team doctors.

"There are many speculations about him but what I know is that he has run away from the national team without permission; we have asked him to write a letter to explain his problem but he did not do that, instead he just ran away and we don’t know his whereabouts,” Nkurunziza told this paper on Friday.

Sibomana joined Qatari first division club Al-Arabi Sports Club last season.

However, one of his teammates, who didn’t want to be named, said  that the former APR player, wants to play for the Qatari national team and knows that continuing to play for Rwanda would reduce his chances.

"I know he wants to play for Qatari national team and I think he ran away because of that, he needs to spend at least one year in Qatari before becoming eligible to play for them,” the player told Sunday Sport.

Efforts by this paper to get to him proved futile as his known mobile phone number couldn’t go through.
