A 36- year- old Tanzanian who has been living in the country illegally for years was deported yesterday by Immigration and Emigration Department, Sunday Times has learnt. Immigration officials said the Tanzanian, Furaha Sahini alias Mugisha was also masquerading as a Rwandan journalist.

The Director General of Immigration and Emigration Department, Anaclet Kalibata confirmed the development when contacted yesterday. He said all documents indicate that Sahini is a Tanzanian although he had fraudulently acquired a Rwandan identity card.

"He tried to apply for our passport but on thorough verification, we discovered that he is a Tanzanian,” Kalibata said at his Kacyiru office.

Sunday Times has established that on arrival on the Tanzanian side of the border, Sahini was well received by immigration officials as a Tanzanian citizen.

Meanwhile, the Rayon Sports midfielder, Abdul Uwimana was never denied a passport as media reports had earlier indicated, Immigration officials have clarified.

Early reports had said Uwimana had been denied a passport to travel to Tanzania for this year’s Cecafa/Kagame cup club championship.

"We only asked him to substantiate his claims that he had lost his earlier passport. This is the normal procedure,” Kalibata explained.
