THE national women handball team will face a tough outing when it takes part in the African under-19 women handball championship scheduled for August 31 to September 9 in Oyo, Congo Brazzaville.
Group A Angola, Algeria, DR Congo, RwandaGroup B Congo Brazzaville, Tunisia, Guinea, MaliTHE national women handball team will face a tough outing when it takes part in the African under-19 women handball championship scheduled for August 31 to September 9 in Oyo, Congo Brazzaville.The tough journey will see them compete against neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo, Algeria and Angola in Group A of the 10-day championship.Hosts Congo-Brazzaville will face Guinea Equatorial, Tunisia and Mali in Group B.The Rwanda Handball Federation Secretary General Alfred Twahirwa told Times Sport yesterday that it’s only hardwork and determination that is needed to ensure that the national team stages an impressive performance."It is a tough group but I believe the young women team is up to the task. We will take this championship as serious as possible,”"We are waiting for the Ministry of Sports and Culture to respond to our financial request so we can enter residential training,” added Twahirwa.The tournament will also act as world championship qualifiers with semifinalists earning automatic qualifications to the global championship to be held in Brazil next year.Most of the players who make up the national team are students from ET Mukingi and Apapeki Cyuru secondary schools.
