The bank is the pioneer of the mobile phone-based solution that is tipped to promote financial access and inclusion in the country."The mVISA platform will help us in leveraging the increasing payment systems in the country,” said Lawson Naibo, the Bank of Kigali chief operating officer. He said customers will be able to deposit and withdraw cash, send money and buy airtime, as well as pay bills and check account balance using the platform."This eco-friendly payment system can be realised in a country like Rwanda with an innovative financial sector, low level of corruption, transparency and ease of doing business,” said Gordon Cooper, the head of emerging market solutions at VISA. The bank will launch the product today at the 16th Annual International Trade Fair at the Gikondo Expo Grounds.
