AFRICAN 400m Paralympic record holder Hermas Muvunyi begins his quest for gold this morning when he competes in the men’s 800m-T46 category at the IPC athletics World Championship which started over the weekend in Lyon, France.Muvunyi who gets into the Rhone stadium field at 11.53am will face strong challenge from Samir Nouioua (Algeria), Alex Pires (Brazil), Omar Hassan Housse (Djibouti), Kenya’s Abrahim Tarbei and Cahit Kilicaslan from Turkey.The 24-year-old is confident of winning his debut medal in the championship. He will also compete in the 400m on Thursday where he must overcome serious title contenders from Jamaica - Shane Hudson and David Bascoe among other competitors.Compatriot Theoneste Nsengimana is also expected to compete in the 1500m.The 25-year-old Nsingimana who qualified for world championships last year in Paris, will compete in the 1500m. The pair also competed in last year’s Paralympics in London.
