Mitali Natty Dread.

Mitali, famously known as Natty Dread, is a Rwandan professional reggae musician.

What time do you wake up?

I normally wake up at around 6 a.m. and make a special prayer, thanking God protecting me and my entire family.

What is your favourite breakfast?

I rarely take breakfast early in the morning, but I instead prefer taking it at around 10am.

The house you live in…

The simplest house you can think of.

What keeps you awake at night?

Writing a song, or working on a project proposal.

What was your childhood dream?

To become an air flight fighter.

All your money goes on…

Social life and my projects.

The moment that changed your life...

It was in 1990, when I staged this extraordinary show in Europe. I sung ‘Time Will Tell’ by the late Bob Marley. This show actually brought me fame, as a sea of people kept on asking me to give them more and more.

You despise…

Musicians who mislead people through their songs in the name of money or fame.

You would not know but you’re good at…

Predicating things, cooking and farming.

Your favourite item of clothing……

Army uniform and all African attires.

Your five year plan…

I’m working on a project that will help the young generation from getting confused by the super artificial world. I will teach them to be natural and to maintain their culture, and of course to be God fearing people.

The bar/restaurant you can’t walk passed…

The Ethiopian restaurant.

What is the worst job you have ever done?

Working with DHL. It was 1980s. I really hated that job because it used to stress me out so much.

Who would play you in the film of your life?

I suppose my son, Nesta Mitali, would be the best actor. I have revealed a lot to him about my personal life.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Struggling for Nesta’s life. His life has been so complicated, but I praise the Almighty God because He has allowed him to live and I’m sure he will for ages.

How do you relax?

I lie under a tree and listen to classic or soft music. My favourite music is that Enya, Rwandan oldies, or classic music.

When did you last cry, and why?

Far back in 1970s. My class teacher punished me terribly, when he entered into the class and found the class (including me) making noise. I was the class captain.

Aside from a property, what’s the most expensive thing you have bought?

A new laptop. I really treasure it, because it will help me to speed up my work and to keep secrets.
