DEFENDING champions Police handball club put shattered APR’s hopes of lifting this year’s handball league title after registering a deserved 28-22 win over the military side yesterday at Amahoro stadium.

Police exhibited an unstoppable performance edging APR to maintain the lead at the summit of the standings with five matches remaining to the end of the season. Police head coach Anaclet Bagirishya hailed his team’s perfomance. He said, "We are happy for the deserved win. I commend the hardwork and determination of my players,”

"We are not yet where we want to be. We want to maintain good perfomances and win the remaining matches so as to retain the title,” added Bagirishya. In the other match, Gicumbi earned 15-0 victory without any sweat as Rubavu’s Police failed to turn up. With five matches left to the end of the season, Police are leading with 27 points, six ahead third-placed APR. 

Gicumbi jumped to second with 24 points while ES Kigoma lie fourth with 20 points.
