Editor,Why are we surprised at Monusco’s preposterous denial of easily observable facts? These “military tourists” (in the words of President Museveni) have consistently bent, deformed, or completely denied crimes they or their FARDC allies have committed over the many years this so-called peacekeeping force has been in the DRC.
Editor,Why are we surprised at Monusco’s preposterous denial of easily observable facts? These "military tourists” (in the words of President Museveni) have consistently bent, deformed, or completely denied crimes they or their FARDC allies have committed over the many years this so-called peacekeeping force has been in the DRC.The surprise is that anyone still listens to them or their New York bosses on what is really happening on the ground in the Kivus. Their spokespersons seem to have borrowed a leaf from the more humorous Groucho Marx’s quip, "Whom will you believe, me or your lying eyes?”Or more probably, like Lambert (Menteur) Mende, from Joseph Goebel’s Big Lie school of spin.Mwene Kalinda, Kigali, Rwanda****************************Long is not forever! Rational people and relevant institutions with objective concerns about peace and security in the region should be posing this question to Monusco: "Why would you be very quick to deny straight-forward provocations involving FARDC and FDLR?”Only the same people who have vested interest in these acts and genocidal sympathisers wherever they are would understand why Monusco is not held responsible for failure to control these forces. The only mandate they have delivered so well and on time is being quick to endorse unsubstantiated allegations against Rwanda. If the bombing and shelling emanated from Rwanda, the whole world would be up in cry for a big foul.Abdul Kanoti, Rusizi, RwandaReactions to the story, "Rwanda: Monusco mortar rebut dangerous”, (The New Times, July 18)
