RWANDA’S rally champion Giancarlo Davite, will have to up his game and skills as drivers gear up to tackle tricky sections in a route that passes through some of the most spectacular Ugandan landscapes in the up-coming V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally due next month.
RWANDA’S rally champion Giancarlo Davite, will have to up his game and skills as drivers gear up to tackle tricky sections in a route that passes through some of the most spectacular Ugandan landscapes in the up-coming V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally due next month. It‘s the sixth round on Africa Rally Championship (ARC) calendar and is scheduled for August 16-17. With just less than 18 days left before the registration deadline, the number of targeted drivers is increasing given the target figure.According to the COC (Clark Of the Course) David Bitalo, the ARC driver confirmed his interest to participate in the rally and it is worth noting that he lent his Subaru Impreza ‘Umuletti’ "N12 to the French crew of Eric Pages and Chantal Pages from Cote d’Ivoire.Other drivers who will compete under the Rwandan accreditation are Elefter Mitraros/Paolo Paganin and Eric Nzamwita who will be co-driving Christakis Fitidis.The 2013 edition of the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally will be run over three days. The rally will cover the picturesque scenery of Uganda and will take competitors and fans to the North Central parts of the country. The total distance of the rally will be 441 Kms, of which 221 Kms will be competitive.There are a total of 11 Competitive Sections which will be re-run over the course of the rally, the longest of which will be 48 Kms and the shortest 2.6 Kms. The competitive sections will be run in groups of 2 or 3.Giancarlo Davite has won the national championship three times in 2008, 2009 and 2011 and also holds the 2009 East African Rally Challenge title. Last month, the Italian-born driver with his navigator Sylvia Vindevogel won the Gakwaya Memorial Challenge with their Subaru Impreza N11 dubbed ‘Umuletti’ to go top of the national championship with 50 points.However, this month, Davite crashed out in Kenya Safari rally to put his contention for the African Rally Championship crown in doubt.With just three rally events left on the 2013 African Rally Championship, Davite will have to press hard his foot on the pedal if he has to claim the first ever African title.The organisers wanted 40 entries for the V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally and only three are remaining to complete the puzzle.
