AFTER officiating the 2013 World U-20 finals in Turkey, Rwanda’s Fifa/Caf assistant referee Felicien Kabanda will handle the Champions league tie between Entente Sportive de Setif and TP Mazembe scheduled for Friday, July 19 in Setif.
Kabanda will officiate alongside another assistant referee Angessom Ogbamariam from Eritrea and centre referee Papa Gassam Bakary from Gambia.
The match commissioner is Malian Abubakar Tiam while Egyptian Mohamed Echaourbi is the match assessor.
This will be the first group match pitting both sides since their qualification to the group stages in May.
According to Nkubito Anthase, head of referees department at Rwanda Football Federation, Kabanda is one of the referees selected by FIFA for 2014 World Cup finals and that’s why he is being given many matches so as to gain the experience and exposure ahead of the global showpiece.
Having started his profession handling local matches in 1998, Kabanda was promoted to Fifa/Caf international assistant referee in 2002.
