THE Adrien Niyonshuti Cycling Academy (ANCA) starts its operations with twelve young cyclists on July 27 in Rwamagana, Eastern Province.According to the Rwanda Cycling Federation head Aimable Bayingana, the academy will start with twelve young cyclists, aged between 14 and 18 years. "We have got many young talented riders across Rwanda but we intend to start with the best twelve promising athletes before increasing the number of beneficiaries,”The academy was officially inaugurated by the National Cycling Federation (Ferwacy) on May 26 with a one-day race dubbed Criterium de Rwamagana that was claimed by veteran rider Abraham Ruhumuriza. It was Ruhumuriza’s second time in a row winning the one-day race.The centre will receive support from United Kingdom’s friends of Rwanda Cycling.The sponsor were attracted by the documentary ‘Rising from Ashes’ that highlights the journey of the national cycling team after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.The Academy was named after Adrien Niyonshuti in recognition of his contribution to Rwanda’s cycling.
