Defending champions Police extended their leadership at the summit of the standings after edging Ecole Secondaire Kigoma over the weekend.With six rounds to go, Police beat Kigoma 35-30 on Saturday to extend dominance to 24 points.Head coach Anaclet Bagirishya told Times Sport yesterday, "We faced a strong and tough opponent but we were determined to win because it is very important as far as retaining the league title is concerned,”"The journey to the league title is still long but we want to stage good performances until the end to ensure that we win the championship,” added Bagirishya.Police, who are set to face rivals APR next weekend, believe that a win against the military side would edge them closer to retaining the league title.In the other matches, this year’s Genocide Memorial tourney winners APR beat Nyakabanda Handball Club 28-19,  while Rambura were beaten 20-26 by Rubavu’s Police at their own turf.Holders Police lead the standings with 24 points, followed by Gicumbi who lie second with 21 points, while ES Kigoma and APR are tied on 20.
