Dutch police have today arrested a 36-year-old Rwandan on suspicion of involvement in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Prosecutors said that information provided by Rwandan authorities and witness statements suggest the man was involved in "a number of massacres, threats and intimidations" of Tutsi and was a leader of the Interahamwe militia.

The suspect's name was not released, in line with Dutch privacy law. Prosecutors say he was refused asylum in 2011 because of his alleged involvement in a massacre at a school in Kigali.

More than a million innocent people were killed in 100 days during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The suspect was appearing before an investigating judge in The Hague today.
