THE National cycling team, Team Rwanda, has been left out of this year’s Tour of Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for August 28-01 September in Brazil.
The team was left out of the invitees after staging poor performances in two previous outings in 2011 and 2012.
In 2011, they finished 14th on their maiden debut in the competition before securing a 15th overall standing the following year.
However, two members Janvier Hadi and Bonaventure Uwizeyimana will participate in the tour but they will be representing South African cycling team UCI Continental, according to Rwanda Cycling Federation’s chief Aimable Bayingana.
"We (Team Rwanda) have not been invited for this year’s tour of Rio but good enough our promising riders have been given a chance to exhibit their potentials,” added Bayingana.
After the Tour of Rio, Hadi and Uwizeyimana are expected to join Valens Ndayisenga and Patrick Byukusenge in Nice, France for the Francophone Games set for September 6-15.Tour of Rwanda is scheduled for November 17-14.
