RWANDAN international center Vincent ‘Gasongo’ Dusabimana is optimistic he will make a quick comeback after the Qatar-based player was left out of the national team which is preparing for the World Championship sub-zonal qualifiers.
Gasongo who plays for Qatar’s Premier league division club Al Gharapha is nursing a knee injury which had to be operated in the past month.
Despite being left out of the national team, the 24-year-old believes he will recover quickly and get to start playing competitive volleyball by mid next month.
The injury came just seven months after the 24-year-old joined the Qatari team.
"I am getting good treatment and I hope to be back in action as soon as possible. My knee is making improvements in terms of recovery because am feeling less pain compared to previous weeks,” added Gasongo.
The national team head coach Paul Bitok is not keeping his eyes off him as he needs him fit for the Zone 5 Qualifiers to be held in Kigali in November.
"I have given him special program of weight lifting and I hope he will recover soon and join the team. We need him in this group,” added Bitok.
Gasongo will miss the elite volleyball world championship qualifiers sub-zone which will be held from July 23-29 in Kigali.
Gasongo started his career at St Alloys Rwamagana under Dominique Ntawanga Sesonga before joining Blues Tigers in 2005.
In 2006, he joined National University of Rwanda and four years later, he joined Algeria first division Etoile Sportive de Setif on a two-year contract which ended with the player heading to Qatar.
