The Public Sector Federation (PSF) has a critical role to play to help the government deliver on the nation’s development aspirations.The federation Chief Executive Haninngton Namara said this during a campaign conducted across districts in Eastern Province to lure more businesspersons to subscribe with PSF.He said the campaign was also meant to elect PSF grass roots representatives in all districts."We registered hundreds of PSF members across districts...they contributed minimum Rwf200.000 per head to foster the activities of PSF. Registering with the federation has three-fold effect; identifying committed members, financially empowering PSF and it makes coordination easy,” Namara said.He said PSF was ready to formalise a target-based relationship with the government for the country’s economic growth."PSF will engage local communities to own and get involved into local initiatives. We are the drivers of the country’s economy, it does not help the country at all if we are passive,” he told business operators in Rwamagana District. "We are trying to redeploy our activities and move forward the PSF agenda with more coordination and publicity. We need more visibility. It is high time we communicated to our members and the public at large, to say what has been done and to state PSF’s long-term plan.”Jean Baptiste Murenzi, the PSF coordinator in Rwamagana District, said the business community was committed to boosting the country’s economy.However, he said businesspersons needed to be given opportunity, whenever tenders were offered in their respective districts."Our commitment to work for our country cannot be overemphasised. We have been working well with the government and PSF to boost the economy. Our vision is clear, but we would like as local business persons to be given opportunity, to win tenders in our districts and not strangers,” Murenzi said.The campaign, conducted over the weekend, raised more than Rwf25m to support PSF in Rwamagana and Kirehe districts.
