Gicumbi handball club won the Liberation Day Handball tourney after trouncing their opponents in a four-team tournament in Ruhango district over the weekend.The tournament attracted ES Kigoma, Police, APR and eventual winners Gicumbi.The 2007 league winners Gicumbi won all their round-robin matches to seal the title. They beat seasonal rivals APR 23-20; hosts ES Kigoma 24-19, and law enforcers 28-20, respectively.Hosts ES Kigoma emerged second after registering two wins over Police 27-26 and APR 26-23 and lost to Gicumbi 26-2.APR and Police finished third and fourth, respectively.Gicumbi Handball Club head Coach Ebenezel Murenzi said, "It is a pleasure for us and Gicumbi district to win the Liberation Day tournament,”"My team is determined to win the national handball league. We want to finish on a high, unbeaten and I am sure we will make it,” added Murenzi.Gicumbi is set to face Police-Rubavu in a league match in a fortnight.
