Rayon Sports are planning to expand their empire by forming a volleyball club and if everything goes according to plan, the team could feature in the next league season, the club chairman and the Mayor of Nyanza District, Abdullah Murenzi, has confirmed."We want to build a competitive and winning (volleyball) team, not a team to just be part of the league. The plan is still being developed and it is going well so far,” Murenzi told this paper on Sunday.He said, "We talked about the idea with the volleyball federation (FRVB) and they happily received our proposal to bring Rayon Sports volleyball club into life.”"If everything goes according to our plan, we hope the team will participate in the next league campaign,” he noted.In a separate interview, Rwanda Volleyball Federation’s technical director, Christian Hatungimana, welcomed Rayon Sports’ idea. "It is a great idea, and Rayon Sports’ arrival would help raise further the league competitiveness and profile.” "They have the most supported football club in the country, and once they start up a volleyball club, the number of volleyball fans would inevitably increase significantly,” he stated.According to the official, the new league is penciled to start in October so as to fall into line with the international volleyball federation (FIVB) calendar.Rayon Sports’ main rivals, APR FC, on top of football, have clubs in volleyball, basketball, athletics and handball leagues.
