Mukura Victory Sports et Loisirs Football Club will play a friendly match against Tanzanian’s Geita Gold FC on August 5 at Huye Stadium as part of celebration of club’s 60th anniversary.
One of the oldest clubs in Rwanda, Mukura was founded in early 1963.
Despite failing to win a league title, the Huye-based team won five Peace Cup titles in 1978, 1986, 1990, 1992 and 2018.
During the 2018 season, Mukura, led by then head coach Francis Haringingo, won the Peace Cup after beating Rayon Sports (3-1) in the penalty shootouts.
The teams had played out a goalless draw in regular time.
In February 2022, the club beat APR FC 1-0 to bring the club’s 51 unbeaten run in Rwanda Premier League to an end.
The match against Geita is, accord to the club statement, a good opportunity not only to celebrate to what the club has achieved during the past six decades but also for new players to settle in the team.
"Playing against one of the good teams in Tanzania is good as they are trying to get back to a regular playing rhythm ahead of the tough matches they have ahead,” the club stated.
