Eritrea’s Denden and SID of Djibouti have withdrawn from this year’s Cecafa/Kagame Club Championship set for July 12-26 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye confirmed the development on Wednesday saying that both clubs have pulled out of the tournament for financial reasons.

"There is nothing we can do if other member clubs can’t manage to honor these tournaments due to financial constraints,” Musonye said.

But Musonye also confirmed that adjustments have already been made to Group B where both teams were pooled last month so as to balance the fixtures.

According to the adjustments made; group A remains unchanged but groups B and C have changed.

Group A still has Simba (Tanzania), Tusker (Kenya), Vital O (Burundi) and Benadir Telecom (Somalia).

Group B has Uganda Revenue Authority, Rayon (Rwanda) and Awassa Ethiopia while Group C comprise Young Africans (Tanzania) defending Champions APR (Rwanda) and Miembeni (Zanzibar).

Cecafa was set to hold a technical meeting yesterday to discuss on the fixtures but efforts of getting any information by press time proved futile.

However, Musonye said that the fixtures will also be released on Friday (today) before the tournament starts the following day at Dar es Salaam, national stadium.

Two teams from each group will be joined by the best third placed sides into the quarter-finals.
