Fifteen local cricketers are set to be involved in a four-day umpiring course which starts this afternoon. The event which is organized under the auspices of Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) and ICC, the global cricket governing body is to be handled by Subhash Modi, an ICC certified umpire.

The Kenyan umpire, who jets in today aboard Kenya Airways is a renowned ICC umpire and considered to be one of Africa’s finest.

Modi has won a couple of ICC accolades, the most recent one being the ‘Best Umpire award’ during this year’s World Cricket League Div 3 tournament that was held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Rwanda reached the semi-finals during that event, losing to Sierra Leone for the third and fourth place play-off. Ghana beat Swaziland in the final but the two countries qualified to division two.

"It is an honor to have him coming over. Umpiring is one area that has been lagging behind but that now seems to be history,” a close source to RCA said.

Although the venue was yet to be confirmed by press time, Modi who will reside at Novotel during his stay in Rwanda will conduct the course at either Mille Collines or Gorillas hotel.
