The 2013 Primus League champions Rayon Sports face a rocky test against Uganda Revenue Authority in the last quarter-final match of the Cecafa Kagame Club Championships on Thursday at Al Nugga stadium in Al Fasher City, North Darfur.
The Blues go into today’s clash with high confidence after ending their poor start to the competition to reach the last eight with a 4-1 win over Ports of Djibouti on Tuesday.
Head coach Didier Gomez da Rosa is looking to win another major silverware for the Nyanza-based side this season after helping them win the Football league title after a nine-year drought.
The team also won the inaugural Genocide Memorial Tournament, Agaciro Development Fund cup and the RwandaFootball.com cup.
The French tactician said, "We hope to pick-up from where we left off in the group stages. I am confident Rayon Sports have what it takes to qualify to the next round. The players are in good mood and morale is high, everyone is looking to qualifying to the semi final.”
Gomez da Rosa will take on a tricky URA side without defender Donatien Tuyizere, who has two yellow cards, but he welcomes back stand-in skipper Fuadi Ndayisenga, from suspension, and defender Faustin Usegimana, who shook off a back injury.
Rayon Sports is aiming to repeat the 1998 feat when they went to Mwanza, Tanzania, and won the championship for the first time in their history and became the first Rwandan club to win the regional title on foreign soil.
Rivals URA who played the group stage matches without head coach Paul Nkata are welcoming back their tactician and are eager to power into the last four.
URA finished second in Group C with three points after registering a win against Al Hilal Kadougli before losing to Al Ahly Shandy.
The Ugandan side will be looking up to striker James Kasibante to provide the goals in a game which both sides don’t clearly know well their opponents.
