On Tuesday, the Presidents of Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda resolved to construct a railway line to link the three countries.

This was one of the many decisions reached at the joint meeting between Presidents Paul Kagame, Yoweri Museveni and Uhuru Kenyatta in Entebbe, Uganda.

Other projects the Heads of State agreed to do, include building an oil pipeline from Eldoret to Kampala and then be extended to Rwanda, and also co-operate in developing tourism among other things.

These are grand projects that if implemented, would greatly contribute to the development of the three countries and hasten regional integration.

The East African people should support their leaders in every way possible to make sure that their ambitions become a reality.

Once implemented, transportation costs for goods will go down in addition to other trade barriers that have adversely affected doing business in the region.

The technocrats need to do their homework well to avoid past mistakes that have led to the collapse of similar ventures.

With commitment at the highest level, there should be no excuse for the projects not taking off.

It is high time we made the region a perfect destination for doing business. More investors will flow in, creating more jobs for the people and overall economic growth in East Africa.
