Rwanda Youth Science Society (RYSS) organised a one-day science camp at Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology illustrating science at its best.The camp kicked off with presentations from the two participating schools FAWE Girls School and Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology. Shadad Mutoni a senior six PCB student made a presentation on behalf of Gashora Girls’ Academy of Science and Technology about telescopes, the different types of telescopes and how they kept evolving over the years.Rwanda Youth Science Society carried along with them a telescope and students were able to assemble it and put what they have learnt in class in to practice.From FAWE, Yvette Ishimwe, Kevine Izamurera and Elizabeth Tengera made a presentation on astronomy and why many scientists fall in love with it. Their presentation made a good number of girls leave with a dream of becoming astronauts.Ivan Mbaraga on behalf of RYSS challenged the media saying that if the country is to achieve its vision 2020, the media should put more emphasis on science and technology instead of fashion styles and entertainment."Communicating science and technology will enhance its importance in Rwanda a land locked country were its development depends entirely on human labour,” said Mbaraga.RYSS is visiting schools and creating science clubs to engage students in activities and projects that will enhance their creativity and innovation.
